Imagine being able to choose the most desirable rooms Bethel Brooklyn, paid holidays and extended to six weeks a year, which you can take to go to virtually any site land and "visiting places that people can only dream about, all expenses paid, health or medical expenses covered, without having to worry about food, housing, might even make speeches in different parts of the land, make visits to Central Zone and South America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, to name a few. Travelling in first class. Have prestige and prominence. And if you wanted to travel to Paris, Athens, Madrid, Lisbon, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, or any other major city would only have to let them know the branch office for which they prepare a meeting at which thousands of your brothers Jehovah's Witnesses attend only to prepare, I would go to common audiences of five to thirty thousand people in each of these meetings, you'd be the guest of honor among your fellow Witnesses. [1]
And if all this were not enough, being the nephew of Vice-President (and later President) of the most "eminent Biblical scholar" of the Watchtower Society ie we are talking about being a member of the Governing Body.
Well, all this had to resign Raymond Victor Franz in 1980, he said the environment that existed during that time:
's desire to break free of the atmosphere of suspicion that was being developed, to be free of participation in an authority structure that I could not defend bĂblicam body and the decisions that he could not morally support, weighed just as strongly about me.- Crisis of Conscience, pg. 257.
Raymond Victor Franz was born on May 8, 1922, the son of parents who had been part of the movement of the "Bible Students" (and since 1931 known as the Jehovah's Witnesses). At 16 years old joined this movement and by 1939 had been baptized Jehovah's Witnesses. In 1940 graduated from high school and became a precursor to full-time and remained so for 40 years. In 1944, he attended for 5 months to the Bible School of Gilead and after their training is sent in 1946 to serve in France. Later, he ended up being assigned by 1 ½ years as superintendent in Alabama Circuit part of California. Is then sent as a missionary to Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. In Puerto Rico he met Cynthia, who would become his wife and fellow missionary service.
in 1957, was expelled from the Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo. Two years later he married Cynthia and Franz continue
ues in missionary service in the Virgin Islands. In 1961, returning to the Dominican Republic as a missionary for 5 years at a time of great political turmoil and civil war. The religious activities of Jehovah's Witnesses were banned and foreign missionaries were expelled. Raymond is then appointed as Superintendent of Subsidiary.
In 1964 the president of the Society, Nathan Knorr Raymond Franz invited to be part of the World Headquarters staff, joining the Bethel Service Brooklyn, New York. The following year, Raymond Franz was appointed to work in the Writing Department, whose superintendent was Karl Adams and was instructed to develop a biblical encyclopedia Jehovah's Witnesses. In that project, he collaborated with 4 other people in the World Headquarters, writing in 1969 what would be the book entitled Help E nderstanding the Bible (now known as Insight to understand the Scriptures) . After completion of the project, October 20, 1971, is invited to join the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses where he served for nine years, from 1971 until his resignation in 1980. [2]
was during these last 9 years where he had a "crisis of conscience" between continuing to fulfill their vows as a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses or leave everything to follow the true biblical standards.
Their experiences and everything that led to this crisis, was announced in his 1983 book "Crisis of Conscience", which can be read by click here. Even devoted an article with an interview he did in 1996, which can search here. A few years later (in 1991) published his second book "In Search of Christian Freedom." His books, translated into several languages \u200b\u200bmeant that many people write or visit them at home, as you know, always responded to all and were excellent hosts where they lived in a nice house west of Atlanta. The next picture was taken in 2008, next to him, his wife Cynthia.
The May 30, 2010, at 88 years old Raymond Franz had a heart attack, being in a coma and was kept alive by a ventilator on June 2, his wife Cynthia took the difficult and tough decision to let go, Raymond died without suffering any pain. His remains were cremated and no funeral service was zero, since this had been the decision to Ray.
With his books, he opened a window, allowed us to cross the veil that lies behind the group of men who are called "Governing Body", and how to perform this process of making decisions that affect the lives of each of the 7 million Jehovah's Witnesses that exist today. In none of his books collecting hate much less rancor and resentment, in contrast, are full of sincere and frank language.
From here, I join the pain of his wife, family and friends, and many around the world who mourn this great loss. [3]
is to admire what Raymond had to leave the comforts and benefits that was at Bethel, but no man should ever go against their conscience. His decision was the hardest, but there is no doubt that what he did was the best not only for him but also for hundreds, perhaps thousands of people who could take off the bandage from the Watchtower, and still continue to do for her books.
Here is a video, made by WTComments, as a tribute to Raymond Franz, where are gathered many comments, thanks and testimonies of former Jehovah's Witnesses who were free for the information that has been made available to all in their books, that if the video is in English, but feel the love, admiration and gratitude of many to Ray (I hope we can have the subtitled video coming soon).
Farewell Raymond Franz.
